Endovenous Laser Ablation
Endovenous Laser Ablation, EVLA, is offered at Meadows Surgical Arts as a solution to leg pain and varicose veins.
A medical condition, Venous Insufficiency, is caused by malfunctioning valves in the veins. This causes blood to flow backwards resulting in poor circulation and leg pain. Blood reflux in the Great Saphenous Vein can be treated with laser ablation. When the veins close improperly the valves in an individual's legs become damaged leading to varicose veins, pain, swollen limbs, leg heaviness, and fatigue.
If left untreated symptoms can worsen over time.
During a consultation, an ultrasonographer uses an ultrasound to scan an individual's legs to determine if venous insufficiency is present.
Understanding the Procedure
EVLA is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure using general anesthesia or local anesthesia with I.V. sedation. A incision is made in the lower leg. The surgeon inserts a tiny catheter into the damaged vein, powered by radio-frequency (RF) energy. Heat causes the vein wall to shrink and close. After the vein closes, blood is rerouted to healthy veins
Understanding the Recovery
Following the procedure, a simple bandage is place on insertion site and the patient can resume normal activities within one day.
*EVLA results in excellent cosmetic outcomes with minimal to no scarring, bruising, or swelling.
**EVLA is covered by most insurance plans
