Our skin has a unique ability to "refurbish" itself on a constant basis as does other body organs. In fact, our body has the ability to replace itself almost completely every seven years. The problem arises as we age and the process slows down or is completely eliminated. Resurfacing procedures are specifically designed to help jump start the reparative process depending on the depth of wound created by the surgeon/physician. In other words, the deeper the wound created by the offending agent, within reason, the better the results but the longer the recovery time and the more chances of issues with skin lightening and textural changes.
State-of-the-art skin resurfacing is performed at Meadows Surgical Arts with a super-pulsed carbon dioxide laser. Laser surgery involves a special beam of light energy that is absorbed by the skin and surrounding tissues. The laser pulse reduces or removes wrinkles and lines around the face, eyes, forehead and mouth.
Laser resurfacing is an in office procedure with very little discomfort. A numbing cream will be applied to remove any discomfort during the short laser procedure.
Recovery time is short and you may return to many of your normal activities immediately. It is important that you stay out of the sun while your skin is recovering from a laser resurfacing procedure. In a few days your face will begin to peel, much like a sunburn would and your new, fresh skin will show with fewer blemishes than before. It may require two or more resurfacing procedures to achieve optimal results.
