Many of our patients have embarked on a personal weight loss journey using Dr. Meadows' highly successful medical weight loss program, and so many of them have followed up with us with their fantastic results. Sometimes the journey is simply about losing a bit of weight, going down a dress size or two, and regaining health. Other times, the journey becomes a complete transformation. With this patient, it's the latter... she achieved success in her weight loss journey, and wanted to complete the transformation by removing excess skin left behind after the weight loss.
Enter the tummy tuck. Formally called Abdominoplasty, the tummy tuck procedure is designed to removed the excess skin that may hang down on the abdomen after pregnancy or weight loss. Sometimes, the underlying abdominal muscles may need tightening as well. In mild cases, the excess skin on the lower abdomen is removed and the surgery is complete. In more complex cases, the abdominal area is liposuctioned, the excess skin on the lower abdomen is removed, and the belly button is relocated as the skin is smoothed downwards.
This procedure is done under general anesthesia at our AAAHC-accredited surgical center located in Commerce, GA. You go in wearing one dress size, and come out wearing another! Granted, there will be some swelling and bruising, as is the case with any surgical procedure. It will take a little while for the swelling to go down and for you to see your results, but it's well worth it when you see the smooth, flat belly that now fits into your old jeans without the muffin top!
