In very few areas of medicine are so many options available to correct a defect than that of aesthetic fillers. Multiple options have been tried in the US to camouflage the signs of facial aging in the last century. Fat transfer, in theory, is very appealing and has been used since the 1890’s but unfortunately the retention of this filler has been highly unpredictable. At Meadows Surgical Arts, we enhance the retention by using hyperbaric oxygen therapy to aid those tiny fat grafts during the initial 48 hours. Believe it or not, cow, pig, and chicken collagen were all used for a few years but required allergy testing prior to treatment and did not last very long.
